Newport is arguably one of the most beautiful locales on the East Coast. It’s known for its scenic coastal views along with the stunning mansions, many of which were constructed during The Gilded Age.

What to See

The Cliff Walk is a must-see during any Newport trip. The cliff walk provides you with stunning New England views and it’s adjacent to many of the mansions so you can see the exterior architecture combined with the rocky shoreline of the Atlantic ocean.

If you go along Ocean Drive, you can take in the private beaches of the area as well as Castle Hill Inn and Brenton Point State Park.

There are plenty of museums including the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the Newport Art Museum and the Museum of Yachting.

What to Do

Many of the notable events and activities in Newport revolve around the water. You can rent adventurous watersport equipment, visit the Newport Grand for some gambling, go surfing or simply visit one of the many beaches.

Bailey’s Beach is known as one of Newport’s most exclusive. It’s adjacent to a private beach club, and it’s been a longstanding favorite of wealthy families who make the area their summer playground.

Popular events include the Newport Jazz Festival, the Sunset Music Series, Christmas at the Newport Mansions, International Oktoberfest and Tall Ships.

The Food

If you want an elegant dining experience, visit Bouchard, which is a French-style eatery inside a tiny inn. You’ll enjoy the food of Chef Albert Bouchard along with an intimate atmosphere that feels cozy and extraordinary.

A popular tourist spot is Pour Judgement, which feels like a dive bar and serves large portions of pub grub and classic American fare along with a vast selection of beers.

The White Horse Tavern is perfect if you want a restaurant reflecting the history of Newport. The White Horse Tavern originally opened its doors in 1673, and it holds the distinction of being America’s oldest tavern. You’ll find low ceilings and dark wood, as well as classic New England fare.
