It is truly one of the last wild places on Earth. It is the awe inspiring and exotic Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. It is really the only place left on the entire continent where millions of wild African creatures roam free. While a wild African safari may sound a bit too exotic, they have long been known to be safe and highly enjoyable for the rugged and daring adventurers out there.

There is a remarkable and simply epic phenomenon that happens in the Serengeti every year. It has been known as the Great Serengeti Migration and millions of animals from wildebeests to zebras to antelope to elephants to giraffes  and impalas race across the park in search of food and water. In all, it is estimated that over two million wildebeests, 200,000 zebras and 350,000 variety of antelope and Thompson gazelles make the trek in all its natural splendor and glory.

And, of course, trailing the great herds are the great predators. There are lions, hyenas and cheetahs all competing to stay alive on the great plain. The safaris all take place over the period of three or four days and all of  the traveling is done during the daytime. It would be far too dangerous to be out in vehicles or on foot during the night. That is when the great predators are usually out hunting.

When looking to plan a safari, you must do your research because the park is so gigantic that if you chose the wrong hotel or camping area, you might miss the great herds altogether while you are out there. The park is divided into four separate and rather distinct sections so you need to know where you want to go depending on what you want to experience and see.

You can stay in lodges or open tents and you will generally travel in Land Rovers or other type of SUV. The price range for an African safari on the Serengeti are broad enough to fit everyone’s budget. So, if it is wild and exotic adventure you are after, there are few thrills to match a safari in one of the last wild places on Earth.
