Lost Your Phone Or Had It Stolen While On A Trip? Here’s What You Do…

One of the most unsettling things that can happen to you, especially when you are away on a trip, is to lose your phone or have it stolen. It can be quite an unnerving experience especially if you are somewhere that is totally foreign to you. So, if this happens, here’s what you can do…

  • The first thing you want to do is to call your phone or send it a text. Hopefully, if some one turned it into the police, or is holding it for you, they will answer it. Borrow a phone to do this if you have to. Most hotels have a phone you can use anyway. Also, leave a voice mail or a text with all of your current info. Maybe someone will respond.
  • If you have an Android or an iPhone, use the installed find-my-phone feature. When you install it, it can immediately locate your phone for you. You will be able to log onto the network for it and see exactly where it is. It will also start blasting music if you want. You should remotely wipe all of your data from your phone also.
  • After you wipe your data, change all of your passwords including your bank and email. Call your carrier. They might help in the search and might even send you an immediate replacement. Also, know your serial number and report the theft to the local police. Remember, nearly 20 million phones are lost or stolen every year.
